Ever noticed in your web stats, referrers that bare no connection with your website e.g. one of the websites we maintain, which is related to model aircraft has some “referrals” from some porn sites (or other totally unrelated sites). Well it turns out like other pieces of information on the internet, you can spoof the referrer data. In fact they may not have visited your site at all, but sent Google the data so it appears that they have. Why would they do this, you ask… well its to help them rank better in Goggle. It doesn’t harm your website in any way but it doesn’t look good that you have these porn URL’s appearing in your web stats.
